Cape Town: An Eye-Opening History School Trip Destination

A beautiful and vibrant city with a long and troubled past, Cape Town is the ideal destination for a school trip with a historical focus. As well as providing a window onto South African history in general, it offers new perspectives on European expansion in the Age of Exploration, and is in many ways a place that poses important questions about both the past and future of the world. Settled by the Dutch in the 17th century, Cape Town has seen dramatic changes in its time - from the days of slavery to the release of Mandela and beyond. Here are some of the best places to begin exploring the city's complex heritage.

The Castle of Good Hope

Constructed by the Dutch East India Company to defend the Dutch settlement from the British, this star-shaped fort has been a constant through all the changes that Cape Town has undergone since its days as a colonial outpost. It served several purposes, housing a church, shops, bakery, workshops and homes, as well as a bell tower used to warn of conflict and tell the time. It was used as a prison during the Second Boer War, and some time afterwards as an army headquarters. All this and more can be investigated on a school trip visit to the Castle Military Museum, which it now houses.

District Six Museum

The legacy of apartheid can be learned about in almost any part of Cape Town, with many residents having their own experiences to share, but perhaps the best place to start on a school trip is the District Six museum. The Group Areas Act introduced by the National Party segregated districts of the city according to race, with District Six being declared a whites-only area in 1966, leading to forced removals of its population and the destruction of almost all buildings. The District Six Museum offers information on the cultural life of the area before the removals, and on life in South Africa under apartheid. It is also very much an ongoing memorial with community members visiting and meeting there regularly, and an important reminder that history has far-reaching effects on the present.

Robben Island

Located in Table Bay, Robben Island was the site of a political prison since the turn of the 18th century. It was first used by the Dutch to hold mutineers and anti-colonial leaders and activists from several Dutch colonies, and as a leper colony. Most famously, it is where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years during apartheid. Today, it is home to a museum where those on school trip can see former prison cells, and learn more about Mandela's time there, and the events surrounding his release.

Scuba Diving Adventures in the Cayman Islands

The Cayman Islands are known for scuba diving. It is one of the top diving destinations according to many sources. People travel to the Cayman Islands strictly to dive and evolve their vacation around scuba diving. Divers can choose from a variety of dive sites. There are over 300 dive sites to choose from. The water is crystal clear with 100 feet plus visibility. So, if you have a camera, find gear to bring it underwater. You can take wonderful pictures underwater of the marine life you will see. Divers can explore steep, deep walls, swim-throughs, sponges and colorful corals, reefs, wrecks, and all of the marine life. The Cayman Islands are actually known for the best wall diving in the world. You might see, sea turtles, angel fish, lobsters, eels, groupers, parrot fish, schools of fish, etc. etc. etc. Most dive sites are just minutes from the shore.

Grand Cayman is strict with reef conservation. You are not allowed to touch or harm them in any way. This gives photographers and videographers great photo opportunities to capture since the marine life are not afraid of divers, since they know they will not be harmed. These reefs are unspoiled. Experienced divers also have the option of wall diving.

Another way to experience all the scuba diving you can experience is a Liveaboard. A Liveaboard is a boat where you stay at sea for around a week depending on your boat. You basically eat, sleep, and scuba dive the entire time. You are able to dive more often and see more of the Cayman Islands, the boats also travel to Cayman Brac and Little Cayman.

My cousin and her husband dove with two different operations, which were Cayman Dive Shuttle and DiveTech. They dove 4 dives with Cayman Dive Shuttle and 5 dives with DiveTech. The other 3 dives were shore dives.

- Cayman Dive Shuttle has a more customized dive experience for divers. The operation is owned by a husband/wife team and they have one small boat that fits maximum of 8 people all together. They keep the groups small for a more personalized and relaxed experience, away from the crowds.

- DiveTech is another great operation. They have two large boats and two departure sites, which are Lighthouse Point and Cobalt Coast Dive Resort. Once again, my cousin informed me about some of their dives. They dived with DiveTech for three days. When you dive with DiveTech for three or more days, you get unlimited shore diving and an overall discount on diving. So you will get a pretty good deal. DiveTech goes on a deep dive and then follows that with a shallow reef dive. There was more available on the boat for use such as a device to analyze Nitrox, which Cayman Dive Shuttle did not have. DiveTech's crew was friendly and at times would let you explore without the guide as long as you had a buddy to roam underwater with.

First-Timer's Guide To Visiting Boracay

The gorgeous beaches, clear waters, scenery, tropical climate, and first-rate accommodations in Boracay Island are just some of the reasons that make this place one of the most visited holiday destinations in Asia.

If you are planning to visit Boracay for the first time, keep in mind these few reminders and tips for a safe and fun holiday experience.

Book your airline and hotel reservation ahead of time.

This is important. Many tourists spend their holidays on the island year-round. Secure plane tickets and a hotel in Boracay months before your desired travel dates. This gives you enough time to look for better offers, promos, and most of all to avoid the peak season rush and high rates that come with it.

Pack smart. Pack light.

Don't pack as if you're going to spend a month on the island. Bring the essential beach items such as t-shirts, underwear, flip-flops, swimwear, and your sunblock. Travel light so it won't be difficult for you to explore the island and also to avoid wasting time on security inspection and money on fees for excess baggage.

Inquire about transfer services.

Most hotels and resorts in Boracay offer boat transfers to and from the island to Caticlan, as well as van services, so make sure you ask about these on your initial hotel hunting inquiries.

Dine in delight.

Boracay offers most of the conveniences you'll find in a city, which includes a myriad dining option. Fastfood chains and gourmet brands like Yellow Cab, Cyma, and Starbucks can now be found on the island. You'll also find local eateries and stalls offering fresh seafood dishes, tasty desserts, and everything in between.

Get around easily.

The main modes of transportation in Boracay are tricycles, which you can hail anywhere in Boracay's main roads. You can also go D'Mall where you can ride a tricycle in front of the small grocery called Budget Mart.

Party and have fun.

It's a known fact that aside from relaxing and indulging in different water sports activities, people come here because they want to experience partying Boracay-style. The island is teeming with party hotspots where you can enjoy dancing and drinking the night away. If it's your first time here it is better if you are with a group of friends, and in a place near your hotel. Just remember to keep the drinking to a minimum, avoid trouble, and do not accept casual invitations from people you just met.

Always keep your valuables safe.

Especially phones, wallets, and plain tickets. There are banks with ATMs on the island so don't bring too much cash when out partying or hitting the beaches. Some hotels have in-room safe where you can stash your important items.

An Airplane or Motor Coach Can Deliver Passengers to Their Grand Canyon Float Tours

A Grand Canyon float tour is probably the best way to take in this majestic National Park. As you meander down the smooth Colorado River, you'll come to appreciate the immensity of this natural wonder. Photographs just don't do it justice. Grand Canyon float tours all start at the same place on the river, but there are several ways to get there. The best choice is a tour that incorporates two modes of transportation: a plane ride to the spot where your pontoon raft is launched into the river, and then a bus ride back, with a stop along the way for shopping at historic Cameron Trading Post.

Plane flights leave from Grand Canyon National Park Airport, located in Tusayan, Arizona just outside the park's main gates. Flying east, you'll pass over Navajo country and the fabulous Painted Desert before landing at Page, Arizona.

A 4x4 Jeep will then drive you to Antelope Canyon, an otherworldly place that's one of several unique sights in the region. The channels cut between the rocks of the canyon are wide enough to walk through. Your Jeep will then drive through a two-mile tunnel, after which you'll arrive at the river bank at the base of Glen Canyon Dam. The dam itself is a spectacular sight, towering more than 70 stories high. Grand Canyon smooth-water rafting tours launch from this awe-inspiring spot.

If you'd rather skip the flight, you can take a motor coach tour to Glen Canyon Dam. Along the way, you'll have a stopover at Glen Canyon Recreational Area. The bus drivers and river guides are full of interesting information about the geology and history of the area, and they're happy to share it with you as you're witnessing the area's spectacular scenery.

Grand Canyon float tours meander down the Colorado River for more than 15 awesome miles - enough time and distance to let you see some truly majestic sights as you're soaking up the area's tranquility. You'll land at Horseshoe Bend, where after a short walk you'll be able to view ancient Native American petroglyphs (rock drawings). You'll also enjoy lunch while relaxing in the shade of the orange cliffs towering above you.

After lunch, you'll continue down the river to historic Lee's Ferry, which features an old trading post and fort. Your smooth-water rafting ends here, and you'll board a bus to take you back to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Along the way, you'll stop at Cameron Trading Post for a quick shopping opportunity - it offers some of the region's finest Native American handicrafts.

Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunscreen, because you'll be spending several hours in the hot sun. Long-sleeved shirts are recommended, but wear your swimsuit under your regular clothes, because you'll be stopping at places where you can enjoy a cool, relaxing dip in the river. Your smooth-water rafting tour should provide plenty of drinking water.

Half-day rafting is one of the most memorable of all Grand Canyon adventures. The water's calm (no whitewater rapids are in this part of the Colorado River), so these river excursions are suited to people of all ages - seniors and kids four years of age and up included. Book your tour in advance, because seats fill up fast. Find a reputable, dependable tour company and then make your reservations as soon as you can.

How To Enjoy A Tanzania Safari

Tanzania is a land full of extreme diversities that can be best explained using one word; heavenly. This is so because the experience that one gets once in this beautiful land is the feeling of extreme peace and harmonious promises both in tourism and in the people. The tourism in Tanzania is extensive just as the country is in terms of culture and land massiveness. Having a Tanzania safari will mean that one can choose to visit a wide range of areas that boast of the best accommodations together with the best wildlife.

Traditionally, Tanzania safaris have been concentrated in the north which happens to harbour Serengeti national park. There is also the famous and the symbol of Tanzania, Mt. Kilimanjaro. The north is popular with tourist mainly because of the eighth wonder of the world, which is the migration of over a million wildebeests from Kenya to Tanzania and vice versa. Many love to watch the hunting of the wildebeests and other herbivores by the big five cats and other predators.

A Tanzania safari will however include other areas of this great land and a person should be prepared and brace themselves for a true bush safari. Ruaha National Park will be one such place where one can watch a wide variety of herbivores in addition to some felines that lord over the park. The park is situated in the southern part of Tanzania. Going further south you will land in Usungu National Reserve which exhibits just as many grazing animals as felines. A bush tour is ideal here.

Mahale Mountains National Park would be the other tourist ideal destination. The park exhibits plentiful of chimps and it has the equatorial-like climate because it is located at the shores of the big beautiful of Lake Tanganyika. It is just 60 miles south of the exact place that Stanley uttered the now immortal words, 'Dr. Livingstone, I presume?' The park is ideal for those who love nature walks through forests and it would be the ideal distraction from the traditional north tours.

Planning for a Tanzania safari would mean that one gets to locate the destinations to frequent or stop over before embarking on the journey. This is mainly so because the distances are extreme and the roads though okay if using a 4X4, not very ideal if you are to drive 100kilometeres across the land.

The most extra ordinary thing that every visitor learns here is the fact that Tanzania has over 100 ethnicities and each and every one is at peace with each other, in fact the love flowing throughout this land is brotherly. It is therefore little wonder that every tourist upon sitting down back at home with an aim of listing the greatest things about Tanzania finds themselves listing Tanzanians' hospitality. A Tanzania safari will not be accomplished at least in terms of enjoyment and learning about the land itself if you don't interact with the locals. Tanzania's tourism is for sure headed for greater heights.

Canal Boat Holidays - Pennine Canals

The Rochdale Canal, Calder & Hebble navigations combined with the Leeds and Liverpool Canal come together to form the Pennine Canals. These canals span across the rolling countryside from the coastline and connect Northern Cities such as Manchester and Leeds via the canal waterways. The Rochdale Canal navigation was built after the Calder & Hebble, and formed at the historic basin at Sowerby Bridge, which is where the Sowerby Bridge marina is situated.

Cruising Suggestions from Sowerby Bridge Marina:

Short Breaks: Cruising east from the basin on the Rochdale Canal for a weekend boating holiday you can reach Hebden Bridge and Todmorden before turning your hire boat around to return to the marina. To reach these towns you can expect to experience a tunnel navigation followed by operating the deepest locks in the country, Tuel Lane Lock. After this exciting descent, the canal gradually leads you up through the fields and past cobbled houses of Hebden Bridge. Mooring here you can explore Hebden by foot, originally a small mill town, which produced woollen goods. The town is full of literary history populated by those looking for artist inspiration within the Yorkshire Pennine views. Departing the mill town you and your hire boat will wind through the forests and countryside views to Todmorden, situated in a connection of three deep valleys. The area is perfect for trekking, bird watching and horse riding. Todmorden is full of impressive Victorian architecture and a wealth of independent shops.

Weekly Hire: For the longer holidays, on the return trip why not continue East past the Sowerby Bridge marina onto the Calder and Hebble. This will take to you Brighouse with plentiful pubs for the afternoon and mooring spaces in the town, this in an ideal place to stop for an afternoon meal and relax by the canal side.

One Way Options! For those who are experienced and enjoy more active canal holidays, there are a few one way options on selected boats from Sowerby Bridge to Foulridge. On a one week holiday travelling via Leeds City Centre on the Calder & Hebble Navigation and Leeds & Liverpool Canal. Or for a two week holiday travelling down the Rochdale Canal via Manchester and onto the Leeds & Liverpool Canal from the west. Transfers will be arranged upon your arrival to return you to your car following your one way adventure!

With so much to do and see on the Pennine Canals, you will find something to suit every member of the family on a canal boat holiday in Northern England.

Amazing Amazonia - Where Everything Is Larger Than Life

One evening I sat at a waterfront bar overlooking the Amazon river and sank a few Pisco sours as I watched lightning crackle over the surrounding rainforest.

I was in Iquitos, a Peruvian port, a mere 3,600 kilometres away from the mouth of this mighty waterway. A good spot to contemplate the grandeur of nature and the foibles of man.

For the Amazon is not just a river or a highway. It's a force that gives life and takes it away, ruling the destinies of the people on its banks, influencing global weather patterns.

To visit Amazonia is an adventure but also an education, awakening in any sensitive traveller a wealth of conflicting emotions. You are conscious that here the virgin forest and the remaining tribes who inhabit it are under threat from modernising forces, from the urge to develop, to exploit natural resources.

Scientists value the forest as a genetic reservoir. According to the US National Academy of Sciences, 10 square kilometres of rainforest may contain 125 species of mammal, 400 species of bird, 100 species of reptile, 750 species of tree and 1,500 of flowering plants.

For a glimpse of this natural paradise, I spent a week at a jungle lodge in Ecuador, founded by a former Hollywood scriptwriter with an ecological bent.

It stood on a lake near the Napo River, a tributary of the Amazon. Ospreys dived for fish in a lake patrolled by turtles. There was time to gape at black-billed toucans and orange-winged parrots and listen to the chorus of howler monkeys.

At night you could check the mangroves for beady-eyed caymans, by day visit a butterfly farm or learn about the dragon blood tree whose sap has curative properties like iodine.

After that, visiting Manaus was somewhat shattering. This Brazilian city, once enriched by the rubber boom, later sank into sleepy decay. But no longer is it a sleepy backwater.

As Brazil has become an economic powerhouse of the southern hemisphere, the population has soared. Scores of assembly plants attract settlers from other parts of Brazil. Tourists flock in and modern office blocks have been thrown up.

Only the waterfront has a jungle air to it, bustling with cargo and passenger craft. Sling your hammock and you can take ship for Belem, 1,400 kilometres away at the mouth, or head up into the wilderness.

An obligatory excursion is a boat cruise to witness the meeting of the waters, where the black Rio Negro joins the muddy Solimoes, as the Amazon is known between Iquitos and Manaus. Dolphins leap close to be boat and ocean-going vessels plough past.

Here the river can be up to 100 metres deep. Typical of Amazonia, where everything tends to be over-sized, both the prospects and the problems.

School Trips to Valencia, Spain

While on your school trips to Spain, a few days in the city of Valencia would be a valuable addition to your itinerary. Located on Spain's eastern coast, Valencia offers a variety of art, history, culture and entertaining excursions. The city was founded as a Roman colony back in 138 B.C. and has played an important role in Spain's history ever since. It is small enough to be covered on foot in a few days, but is still the third largest city in Spain. A visit here should certainly not miss out on some of the major sites such as the La Lonja de la Seda, then take a trip through the arts of the region at the important Museu de Bellas Artes before spending your final day cutting loose and having a bit of fun at the Aquaopolis or the Terra Mitica.

La Lonja de la Seda

Built between 1482 and 1533, La Lonja de la Seda (Silk Exchange, in English) is a late Valencian, Gothic style building that is a must-see on school trips to the area. The building was constructed for the Silk Exchange and is a stunning symbol of the power and wealth involved in the Mediterranean industry during this period. A striking example of this is the Sala de Contratación (or Trading Hall), with its large pillars and extraordinary proportions. The La Lonja is also the seat of the Cultural Academy of Valencia and serves as a venue for its events and other functions. The La Lonja was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.

Museu de Bellas Artes

This Museum of Fine Arts in Valencia is located at C/ San Pío V, 9 and is considered to be one of Spain's most important museums, and as such, it is worth a visit on your school trips to the city. The museum is housed in the College Seminary of St. Pius V Palace, which is itself an exceptional work of architecture from the 17/18th centuries. Founded in 1913, the museum has works of paintings, drawings, sculptures, and archaeological items, with the artworks mostly dating from the 14th-17th centuries. The annex that has been added in the 1990s, provided the museum extra room to exhibit a wider array of Valencian artists' paintings and drawings.

Aquaopolis and the Terra Mitica

After you have spent days in the heat and sun exploring the history and culture of the beautiful city of Valencia, why not have a break on your school trips and visit some of the most exciting attractions in the area? The Aquopolis Cullera, or Valencia Waterpark, is located just 30 minutes from the city and is literally awash with excellent water-based fun. You can enjoy racing water slides, cruise down the Amazonia River, or play in the rapids and the Black Hole - all while soaking up the Spanish sun. Or, if you prefer your fun to be drier, visit the Terra Mitica - located just south of Valencia in the city of Benidorm. Called the "only theme park in Europe" the Terra Mitica provides a variety of thrills and excitement with heart thumping coasters and rides for the adventurous, and a selection of tamer events for those who prefer not to send their hearts racing at every turn.

School Trips to the Moselle Valley

The Moselle Valley in the western part of Germany is home to the Moselle River, which has been called the Rhine's peaceful little sister. The river itself runs along the borders of France, Germany, and Luxembourg and it even drains a small part of Belgium. School trips to the German region of the Moselle Valley will take you along the river to explore the history and culture of the area. Not only does the land around the Moselle grow exceptional grapes and support many wineries, but the towns that dot the water are picturesque and blessed with a rich past. While you are in the Moselle Valley, be sure to visit the town of Traben-Trarbach before you head over to the Rhine River to see the Marksburg Fortress. Finally, while you are in the mood for castles, visit the stunning Burg Rheinfels before returning home.

Traben-Trarbach

School trips to this town situated on the Middle Moselle in the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich will take you into the heart of the region where you will be surrounded by vineyards and woodlands. The town has been mentioned in history as early as 830 A.D. and today it boasts several historic sites that will be of interest. Have a wander around the Ruins of the Grevenburg, which was a castle built in 1350 and subsequently destroyed in several sieges and battles over the centuries. You can still see the ruins of the keep and the foundations of the castle itself. Once you have seen the castle ruins, head across the river to see Mont Royal Fort, a French fort built under Louis XIV.

Marksburg Fortress

If you like castles, then school trips to the Moselle Valley will be an ideal destination for you. So, after visiting the town of Traben-Trarbach, head over to the Upper Middle Rhine River Valley, which is dotted with important towns and structures from history and was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2002. Marksburg Fortress is one of only two remaining fortresses on this part of the river. Marksburg Fortress was built in 1117 to protect the town of Braubach and it has subsequently been used as home for the nobility and a prison. In 1900 it was bought by the German Castle Association, which still uses it for its headquarters, despite being heavily damaged by American Artillery during World War II.

Burg Rheinfels

Once you have had a chance to see a still intact fortress at Marksburg, head off to the Burg Rheinfels, located at St. Goar on the Rhine River. In 1245 Count Diether V von Katzenelnbogen built the castle to protect the St. Goar tax collectors. After the Katzenelnbogens died out, the Hesse family took over the castle and turned it into a Renaissance castle and one of Germany's strongest fortresses. In 1794, it was handed over to King Louis XIV and the castle and its walls were destroyed. Today, the sheer size of the ruins is astonishing. It makes for an excellent destination for school trips where you can see old maps and illustrations and walk along some of the still intact tunnels and trenches.

An Overview Of The Facilities On Board A Luxury Rail Car

The facilities available on board a luxury rail car are as much of a draw as the stunning landscapes through which such tours pass. All the services have the same basic set-up. This includes a locomotive (steam, diesel, or electric), a staff car, generator car, guest suites, non-smoking lounge car, non-smoking dining car, a kitchen car, observation car, and a smoking lounge.

As is fitting on such a tour, individually made cuisine meals are offered in the dining cars which themselves have an atmosphere of grace and old world charm. An accomplished team of highly trained chefs are on hand to ensure that guests' preferences are always catered to. On most luxury tours, there is a focus on the use of locally produced ingredients in all meals, as well as an emphasis on offering travelers the option of sampling traditional dishes from the regions through which they are traveling.

Those people partaking of a luxury rail tour are expected to dress in smart casual attire. During the evenings, there is usually a requirement for more formal clothing to be worn. For men, a tie and jacket is suggested, whereas for women a cocktail or evening dress is recommended. Warm clothing should be carried if the trip involves traveling in a region in which the temperature is chilly.

To help create the same ambiance as what luxury travelers would have experienced a century ago, most luxury rail tours are devoid of televisions and radios. The use of laptops and mobile phones is allowed, though only in the privacy of guest suites. Smoking is permitted, but confined to the club lounges and guest quarters.

The operators offering luxury train tours typically use cars and carriages that first saw service many decades ago. Each suite would have been refurbished in a traditional style. The result is a journey that embodies a feel of a bygone age. The fixtures and fittings on most carriages have been chosen to create the same ambiance as that which would have been experienced by travelers nearly a century ago.

Whether you have prior experience of luxury rail journeys, or if you are new to such a tour, rest assured that you will have a trip that will live long in the memory. Very little can compare to the joy of traveling in such a time-honored way. Although the costs make such activity exclusive, the high price is money well spent.

What to Wear on an African Safari

Dressing for your African Safari

If you are looking forward to an African safari vacation, you may be wondering exactly what items of apparel you need to pack. A safari is slightly different to most other kinds of vacation as you will need some specialist items of clothing - not least neutral colors to allow you to blend in with your surroundings. Mostly, the weather in African safari countries tends to be pleasantly sunny, dry and sometimes humid. Generally, rainfall is highest in April and May, whilst November and December can also see some rain. If your visit takes in any of the coastal parks and reserves, you can expect the weather to be slightly cooler and less humid thanks to the sea breeze.

Colors and Fabrics

Firstly, when packing for your African safari, you need to consider the type of bag you are planning to take. It's worth remembering that space is restricted in safari vehicles and in the light aircraft you may be travelling on. Also most airlines impose luggage restriction on travellers, so it may be worth leaving the suitcase at home and packing a strong but lightweight holdall or rucksack. It's also far more practical than carrying or wheeling a large suitcase! Once you've selected a bag to take on safari, it's time to think about what items to take with you. Mostly, safari apparel is neutral in color. So any shades of beige, stone, khaki, mushroom and brown is ideal. Avoiding brightly colored clothes will mean that you will be able to view the wildlife in its natural environment without distracting them with your eye-catching shirt! And steer clear of anything with a military or camouflage pattern. In some parts of Africa, it is unlawful for anyone except military personnel to wear these prints. Traditionally African safari apparel was made from cotton. These days, although cotton is still great for keeping you cool and dry, there are plenty of man-made technical fabrics available which are even better at keeping you feeling comfortable. Choose lightweight, non-crease fabrics which are more practical and very convenient. Most importantly, safari apparel needs to be comfortable, cool and casual.

Footwear and Outerwear for an African Safari

Safari vacations have a tendency to be rather active. Depending on which country and which parks and reserves you are visiting, you may be given the opportunity to take a safari on foot or by bicycle. Therefore a strong pair of walking shoes (or boots) and a pair of comfortable trainers are a must. Considering the hot, sunny weather you may encounter during the daytime on African safari, early mornings and evenings can be much cooler, so you will definitely need to take a jacket and a sweater or two. Pack wisely - choose lightweight items as those which 'double up', for example pants with zipper legs to convert into shorts. And, remember your wide-brimmed hat to keep you shaded: an essential for any African safari.

The Best Island in Thailand

Thailand has hundreds and thousands of islands that were considered the best in Southeast Asia. With abundant resources and healthy environment, islands in Thailand are just so attractive to tourists especially the Westerners. It is almost impossible to tell which island, in fact, is the best. People have different views and preferences which will lead to a variety of ideas and opinions. In fact, the local Thais themselves could not tell either because all islands have their own beauty. Vast differences among Thailand's famous tropical islands are attractions to tourists and international visitors. It is indeed difficult to tell which island is better than another. Each island has its own culture and style that supports different needs and wants of tourists and travelers. Main islands in Thailand include: Phuket, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta, Jum, Koh Mak, Koh Chang, Koh Phayam, Koh Samui, Pha Ngun, Koh Tao, Samet, and Koh Kood. With their own originality and beauty, tourists from all over the world plan trips without a need to hesitate and reconsider.

Parties in Islands

Thailand's islands are known for famous parties such as the full moon party that occurs every month. As a tradition, local islanders prepare traditional food, beer, and cocktails to welcome tourists and begin the wild party along with the largest full moon as a night's background. Loud dance music and retro songs are international and are well chosen for tourists and visitors to dance their hearts out. When it comes to full moon parties, Koh Samui and Pha Ngun will rank top on the list. Famous for its full moon parties and hard-to-beat night clubs in Chaweng, Samui is considered as 'the island of beats'.

Family Vacation

The islands in Thailand are well-trained, perhaps, to take good care of kids and young ones. With mini-golf, go-karts, water sports, and many other wild activities kids and teens can enjoy their time at Koh Samui, Pha Ngun, Phuket, Koh Chang, and Koh Tao without a bore. If the little young ones prefer playing with sand buckets and animal-shaped blocks, Koh Lanta will definitely be the place. Its white, soft sand and cool sea water will wash away your child's tears. Hotels and accommodations are well-prepared in all islands; however, some islands are closer to nature and therefore have lesser grand hotels than the others. Koh Lanta and Koh Chang, perhaps, have one of the most expensive hotels among the other islands. Looking for restaurants and some food to minimize your hunger? All islands are equipped with traditional food and international dishes. Koh Kut though, particularly attracts numbers of tourists here with its Thai traditional food and desserts along with its own close-nature atmosphere and environment.

Beaches and Activities

Koh Phi Phi is the best island in terms of beaches and sea water. No offense, Phi Phi is one of the world's clearest beaches where numbers of movies filmed their scenes. In Koh Phi Phi, tourists can scuba dive, swim, kayak, and water ski. With courage and confidence, tourists can enjoy the bungee jumping as well.

What To Expect On Board A Luxurious Rail Car

Rail is a form of transport that has held a strong fascination for travelers since the first tracks were laid more than two centuries ago. Although there has been many developments in the world of transportation over the last hundred years, very little can compare to the charm of traveling in a pristine carriage across hitherto undisturbed regions of the globe. It is for this reason that luxury tours by rail are very much in demand.

If you decide to take a luxury rail tour as your very next vacation, it is unlikely that you will be left feeling any disappointment. This is the kind of trip that people from all walks of life can enjoy. It is not just an activity that is reserved for train spotters and rail enthusiasts.

Before you book your seats, you should take a moment to learn about what kind of service you can expect to have access to on board. The facilities are as important as the landscape and scenery visible through the coaches' windows. The experience should be one that is of the highest quality in every form.

Most luxury tours feature carriages that have been lovingly restored to embody the charm and luxury of a bygone age. Today, although the original fixtures and fittings of the cars that are in service are no more, each suite would have been transformed into its past glory by a dedicated team of craftsmen. The spirit and ambiance on board such a tour is a world away from most modern trains.

All luxury train tours feature comfortable lounge cars in which guests can mingle and share experiences. Lounge cars often double as lecture rooms on most tours. Each car is fully air-conditioned, and provides the highest level of comfort. If you have experience of other luxury train trips such as the Orient Express in Europe or The Palace on Wheels in India, you likely have high expectations.

Before booking a berth on a luxury train, it is important to research exactly what kind of facilities would be available. If you are going to spend a considerable sum of money on this unique kind of vacation, you should not be left with any surprises on the day of departure. It would be in your interest to check out reviews posted by other travelers, and if possible search online for images and video that has been shot on board the train you are planning to travel on.

A Paradise Called Boracay

My husband and I needed that - a day of nothing, but relaxation. Its been so stressful because of the cold weather here in Buffalo, it felt so good to just take a break and not worry about bills and deadlines. Perfect timing as its summer in my homeland Philippines. My travel partner is wonderful for making this vacation for real. It's been three long years since I left my country, we both so exhausted on a long hour's trip. Upon arrival to Ninoy Aquino International Airport I never felt that I've gone these long, maybe because nothings change. The crowded Edsa, crow of a rooster, street vendors and Magdalena waiting for her maybe first customer. As early as 6am, were waiting for our next flight to Caticlan Boracay, but this time with my parent's. This is our first time that we travel together and it's going to be so exciting. Our first adventure - Boracay Island.

This little island is quite amazing. The emerald, sea green ocean, the long stretch of white sandy beaches parallel with an abundance of restaurants of various cuisines... and of course, buffets with "bottom-less iced teas". Willy's Rock hotel is our "only" place to stay when we go to Boracay. We have our favorite suite overlooking from the beach. It is far enough from the mainstream which is absolutely relaxing. What we like about this place was very close to the shore, you may have your breakfast in front of the shore, or to have a very refreshing fruit shake while watching sunrise or sunset awesome!! This location is great quite far from the crowd, very peaceful, friendly staff and the food was good. Whether you're traveling alone, with your significant other, or family, it's worth the money to stay there and soak in the sun, peacefulness and tranquility.

There is plenty of things that you can do in Boracay: island hopping, snorkeling, jet-skiing, sailing, shopping and so on. The first thing which attract my eyes when I arrived in Boracay are the colorful sails floating all over the blue sea. Blue, black, and white sails glided gently across the water and they blended so nicely with the sparkling sea and sunny sky that for a moment, I thought I might have been looking at a postcard. But no, I was really standing in the infamous semi-paradise island of the Philippines. I had never ever sailed in my life before and so I was thrilled by the sight, "Let's go and try! Let's try!" I'm glad my husband and my parents have shared the same enthusiasm. Dave and I tried also the Reef walking. We spent two days trying them all, with me casting a longing look now and then onto the floating colors scattered over the blue sea. On our last day, we reserve a good spot on the Beach a dinner for 4, and that moment was the highlight of this wonderful trip.
